Major issues with Razer Base Station Chroma stand

Discussion in 'Razer Gear' started by ammoPurpleNavydirect106, Jan 7, 2018.

  1. Just bought one of these chroma stands from razer online store and so far I am having three major issues:
    1) Synapse does not recognise the device ( I am not interested in beta version )
    2) If I leave the stand plugged into any of the PC's USB 3 or 2 ports the PC would not start and freezes during boot up even before windows starts to load.
    3) This base station chroma is not even listed on support.razerzone.com/contact-us/ to open a support ticket.

Is there any fix? Is this something Razer is aware of ?
Im a loyal Razer fan owning +20 razer products over the years but now I feel scammed!

I don't think the base station works with the old synapse, since they never went though the trouble of re-engineering it twice for both versions of synapse, any new products like that and the HDK are only supported with the new synapse, only products that were on Synapse 2 before are still supported with the both of them (ex. Firefly, Blackwidow V2).

Could you try the base station on a different PC? I wouldn't think that base station would stop the PC from starting right and making it freeze. My friend has an issue with the wired Man'O'War's where it would freeze his keyboard and mouse, but we narrowed it down to his gigabyte motherboard.

It might not be listed because it is only an accessory, but if you were to call, tweet or go on live chat with them they would be able to help. (They respond a bit on Twitter for minor issues, Live chat would be the best for your issue). There is a chance there is a version of Synapse 2 that supports the base station and they might give you a download for it (I have heard they did that for old old products in the past), but it is uncertian.

I have the Base Station Chroma, mine works as well as Synapse 3 allows so far. Synapse 2 is not supported at all.
I have never had any issues with my PC not booting while the Base Station is plugged in. It may be a conflict with something else on your system, I too would recommend testing it on a different PC if possible.

    Hi there,

I can completely confirm. There is some talk about this issue on reddit too.

First of all for- all of you, that dont seem to understand: This is completely Hardware/BIOS related. The System crashes/resets when initializing or even more specific in POST. It is completely unrelated and irrelevant whether you are running Windows/Linux since the BIOS does Not even get to the System Boot sequence. It also makes no difference whether you are using the Front or rear USB Ports.

Since I just built a New rig some days ago I can also compare 2 completely different Setups:

Old one was i5 3570k on Asus TUF Sabertooth Z77 (newest BIOS Version)

New one is: i7 8700k on Asus ROG Maximus X Apex (newest BIOS Version)

Especially the New Board is one of the most recent, most advanced and expensive ones you can get for this Socket. STILL it has the same POST Crash/hang when all the devices, including the Base Station are connected. If I unplug the Base Station, the system boots just fine.

I own the Base Station Chroma too, and i must say i'm quite pleased with it, i haven't encountered any problem with it so far nor have heard so many people complaining about them. And they really are supported by Synapse 3.0 only, so take that in account.

Right, but that only relates to OPs 1. statement. The boot issue - as mentioned - is completely undependant from any software, since it can't even pass the BIOS POST.

May I ask which and - more importantly - how many razer devices you have? Since this only happens to me (and most others) when you are connecting a LOT of razer devices at the same time (check my signature) :-(

The Base Station is not the only one i got, i also have BW V2, Nage Epic Chroma, Firefly, Kraken USB and Mug Holder. And i just checked the Base Station yesterday on my laptop to see if i have some kind of issues of recognizing and functioning and it was all good.

I'm using Synapse2 devices (Orbweaver, Naga, Kraken, Mug Holder) and Synapse3 devices (Firefly, Ornata, Base Station) plus the Wolverine running under Synapse for Xbox. I have had no issues with any of the USB connected devices holding up the POST, or anything else for that matter.

I'm experiencing this too, maximux hero VIII motherboard won't boot up with the base station plugged in.

Unplug it and it boots up just fine.

Have you tried booting and while the pc is on to plug it?

Yep, that works fine. I just need to unplug the base station whenever I restart my pc and all is well.

I just got the new Razer HDK and my computer won't boot past BIOS when it is plugged in. The LED's also don't turn off when I shutdown my computer. Does anybody have a solution for the BIOS issue? I can live with turning off the lights via Synapse 3 before shutting down my computer at night but having to unplug the HDK module every time I want to turn my computer back on is ridiculous. Is it a firmware issue with the HDK module or is this product not compatible with my system. I've also got my Razer Man O'War, Mamba, Firefly, and Ornata plugged in. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated. I would hate to return these lights :/

It may be that there is something not installed correctly, as I have a HDK and mine boots fine. Obviously I'm not an expert, but just putting it out there that the HDK's do work sometimes xD

    hello everyone,

i have the same issue. The computer will stop restarting if i unplug one of the following devices:
chroma HDK, razer lancehead, or chroma base station.
When everything is plugged in it won't start.
I had a chat with support and let them know that this happens also after a fresh windows install so it's not software related. And the fact that i have all my usb ports full.
    1x blackwidow
    1x chroma base station
    1x chroma sdk
    1x lancehead
    1x kraken 7.1. v2
    1x oculus rift
    2x oculus sensors

they were not aware of the problem but i showed them this thread and they will look into it.

thats what I pointed out several times now. This issue seems to appear only if you have a LOT of razer devices connected to your motherboard. When I remove e.g. my firefly, orbweaver and hdk the system boots up with the base station connected. But as soon as I plug in all of them PLUS the base station, the boot loop appears.

Which in turn does not mean that EVERYONE having a lot of devices connected has this issue, but it seems to be really common.

Maybe there is something in common with all of us experiencing this issue? Like a specific motherboard vendor and/or chipset?

As I mentioned earlier, I do have one of the most recent and advanced Mabos with newest BIOS installed. So it definitely cant be as simple as "chipset is too old/weak".

Yeah, I have a lot of Razer devices plugged in and mine isn't having the issue, so like you said, a common issue but not for everyone...
As for the motherboard, mine is an ASUS, and I'm using an Intel i5-4460 processor...

Please contact Razer Support they can help you, remember this is NOT a support forum. As for the issue you're having, sounds like a motherboard issue not the product itself, also just install syanpse 3.0 it doesn't really matter if you don't like it, the correct drivers make it run correctly.

I've been told by the support that any firmware updates (if available) are applied by Synapse when you plug your device in. So if the base station is only supported by Synapse 3 it might be a good thing to at least try it for the sole reason to get any firmware updates.

no offense but these 2 last comments werent really helpful. Also I have the feeling that you guys didnt read the posts after the initial OP. If you had, you knew your advises arent helping.

But to summarize this up for one last time:

    1. Ofcourse we do have razer synapse 3 installed. AND it is also updated to the newest version. Which in turn means, that the Base Station ist updated to the newest firmware. Thats obligatory. But the issue STILL appears! So what is that helping?

    2. As I pointed out twice already - Many people with completely different hardware and motherboards are experiencing this, so just saying "yeah your motherboard is faulty" is just nonsense.

    3. What do you think? Ofcourse me aswell as others already contacted Support about this. But up until now they seem to have no idea/clue what to do apart from RMA. Guess what? I did RMA my base station... New one came. Still the same effect.
